Chesterfield Transport Promotional video

In 1987, Kirk Jones – Chesterfield Transport’s Marketing Manager – commissioned a promotional video to coincide with the launch of the company’s new blue and yellow livery and the Spire Saver Zonal Season Ticket system (a precursor to the current Stagecoach Chesterfield Megarider and Megarider Plus season ticket scheme).

The video cost £400 to make and was mainly played on a loop in the Morrisons supermarket in Staveley to encourage customers to use Chesterfield Transport’s buses rather than those of its major competitor, East Midland Motor Services. At that time the Staveley to Chesterfield corridor was a key battleground between the two companies following the deregulation of bus services in 1986 and therefore getting customers to purchase a Spire Saver ticket that could only be used on Chesterfield Transport buses, was felt important to encourage customer loyalty.

After 33 years hidden away, Kirk has now located the only remaining copy of this video and has kindly donated it to Transpire so that we can add it to our library. To view it, just press the arrow button in the black box below.
